About the Assist-to-Turnover Ratio
This calculator computes a basketball player's assist-to-turnover ratio, a standard efficiency metric for evaluating ball handlers and playmakers. It divides total assists by total turnovers to show how well a player creates offense relative to how often they give the ball away.
How It Works
You enter total assists and total turnovers for a game, season, or any tracked stretch. The calculator divides assists by turnovers to produce the ratio, expressed as a value to one side of a colon (for example, 2.33:1). If turnovers are zero, it reports either infinity (when assists are positive) or zero (when there are no assists either).

A turnover-free outing
With 5 assists and 0 turnovers, the calculator cannot divide by zero and instead reports the ratio as infinity with a '(no turnovers)' label, since any positive assist total over zero turnovers is undefined as a finite number.

- Overlooking that a small sample (one or two games) can produce a misleadingly extreme ratio compared to a full-season figure.
Edge Cases to Watch For
- When turnovers equal zero and assists are greater than zero, the calculator returns an infinity symbol labeled '(no turnovers)' instead of attempting a division by zero.
- When both assists and turnovers are zero, the result is reported as a plain 0 rather than infinity or an undefined value.
- The ratio is rounded to two decimal places in the displayed output, so very small differences between players may not show up distinctly.
