How It Works
You provide total distance, a unit (meters or yards), and total time in minutes. The calculator divides your time by distance and scales the result to a 100-unit block, then also reports an average speed expressed as how many 100-unit lengths you cover per hour. Pace is displayed in minutes and seconds per 100, matching how pace clocks and workout cards are usually written.
Formula & Methodology
To find pace per 100 by hand, divide your total distance by 100 to get how many 100-unit blocks you covered, then divide your total time by that number of blocks. For example, 1000 meters in 20 minutes is 10 blocks of 100m, so 20 minutes divided by 10 is 2.00 minutes per 100m, which the calculator displays as 2:00. Average speed converts that same ratio into a per-hour rate by scaling the per-minute pace up by 60.

Straight 1000 Freestyle
Swimming 1000 meters in 20 minutes works out to a pace of 2:00 per 100m and an average speed of 30.00 x100m per hour.
1500-Meter Distance Swim
Covering 1500 meters in 25 minutes gives a pace of 1:40 per 100m, with an average speed of 36.00 x100m per hour.

- Treating a single average pace from a broken set with rest the same as pace from a continuous timed swim, when the two are not directly comparable.
Edge Cases to Watch For
- Distance must be greater than zero; the calculator returns an error and shows no results if left at zero or blank.
- Meters and yards are not interchangeable; a 25-yard pool pace will read faster in raw numbers than a 25-meter pool pace for the same effort, since a yard is shorter than a meter.
- The calculator does not account for rest between reps, so pace calculated from a single continuous swim differs from pace calculated across a broken set with rest intervals.
