About the Schedule Gap Buffer
The Class Schedule Gap Buffer Calculator checks whether the time between two back-to-back classes is actually enough to get from one room to the next, pack up materials, and settle in before the next class starts. It is aimed at students building a course schedule who want to avoid registering for a combination that looks fine on paper but is not realistically walkable.
How It Works
You enter the scheduled gap in minutes between the end of one class and the start of the next, the walking time needed between the two buildings, and the time needed to pack up and settle into the new room. The calculator subtracts the walking and pack-up time from the gap to see whether the combination is feasible and how much spare time, if any, is left over.
Examples
Comfortable same-building gap
A student has 15 minutes between classes, needs 5 minutes to walk to the next building and 2 minutes to pack up and settle in, for 7 needed minutes. The buffer is 15 - 7 = 8 minutes, which is feasible with a solid margin.
Tight cross-campus gap
A student has only 10 minutes between classes but needs 10 minutes to walk across campus plus 3 minutes to pack up and settle in, for 13 needed minutes. The buffer is 10 - 13 = -3 minutes, marked not feasible.
