About the Epoxy Coating
Epoxy floor coatings are applied in multiple coats, and each coat draws from the same coverage figure, so a two-coat system needs roughly double the material a single coat would - a detail that's easy to underestimate when eyeballing a kit purchase.
How It Works
The calculator multiplies your floor area by the number of coats you plan to apply, then divides by the coverage rating of your chosen kit or gallon to estimate total kits needed.

A 500 sq ft floor with 2 coats at 250 sq ft coverage per kit needs about 4 kits.
A single-coat system
The same floor with only 1 coat needs half the material, about 2 kits, though most epoxy systems recommend at least two coats for durability.

- Coverage per kit varies significantly by product and by how porous the concrete surface is - a freshly ground or etched floor absorbs more of the first coat than a smoother, previously sealed surface.
- Concrete prep matters enormously for adhesion - oil stains, sealers, or a smooth burnished finish can prevent the epoxy from bonding properly, and most kits require acid etching or mechanical grinding first to open the concrete's pores.
- A third coat (or a clear topcoat over a color/flake system) isn't included by default - adjust the coats field to match your specific system's instructions.
