About the US to UK MPG
This calculator converts a fuel economy figure given in US miles per gallon into UK/Imperial miles per gallon and into kilometers per liter. It exists because the same car produces a different MPG number depending on whether it is measured against a US gallon or the larger Imperial gallon, which can confuse buyers comparing listings from different countries. Entering a single US MPG figure gives both alternate readings at once.
How It Works
You enter a fuel economy figure in US MPG. The calculator multiplies that figure by 1.20095 to produce the equivalent Imperial (UK) MPG, and separately multiplies it by 0.425144 to produce kilometers per liter. Both results are derived directly from the US MPG input; the tool does not accept UK MPG or km/L as a starting point.

Compact sedan
A car rated at 30 MPG (US) converts to about 36.0 MPG under the UK/Imperial standard, and to 12.75 kilometers per liter.
Hybrid vehicle
A hybrid rated at 45 MPG (US) converts to roughly 54.0 MPG (UK/Imperial) and 19.13 kilometers per liter, useful when comparing the listing against European fuel economy figures.

- Entering a UK MPG figure into a field meant for US MPG, which produces an incorrect converted result.
Edge Cases to Watch For

- This is a pure unit conversion, not an adjustment for real-world driving differences, so it assumes identical actual fuel consumption between the two measurement systems.
