About the Gutter Calculator
Gutters are sold in fixed section lengths, so a linear-foot total needs to be converted into whole sections before it translates into an actual materials list at the store.
How It Works
The calculator divides your total eave length by the gutter section length to find how many sections to buy, while also converting the total to meters for reference.
Examples
A typical single-story home
120 ft of total eave length with 10 ft sections needs 12 sections of gutter.
A larger home with more roofline
180 ft of eave length with the same 10 ft sections needs 18 sections, and likely more downspouts to handle the added drainage area.

Common Mistakes
- Measuring only one side of the house instead of the full eave perimeter

Edge Cases to Watch For
- Only eaves, the horizontal roof edges where water actually runs off, need gutters; rake edges on a gable roof shed water sideways and don't get gutters.
- Corner miters, end caps, and downspout drops use extra material beyond the straight run length calculated here.
- Long gutter runs need a slight slope toward the downspout for proper drainage, which affects installation but not the total material length needed.
