How It Works

Formula & Methodology
Start with your measured total gutter length. Convert your chosen waste percentage to a decimal (5% becomes 0.05) and add 1 to get a multiplier of 1.05. Multiply your gutter length by that multiplier to get the total linear feet of guard material to purchase. If your supplier sells in fixed 6-foot lengths, divide the total by 6 and round up to the next whole section, since a partial section still requires buying a full piece.

With the calculator's defaults of 150 ft of gutter and a 5% waste factor, total needed is 150 x 1.05 = 157.5 linear ft, requiring 27 six-foot sections (157.5 / 6 = 26.25, rounded up to 27).

For 220 ft of gutter and a higher 10% waste factor to account for extra corners, total needed is 220 x 1.10 = 242 linear ft, or 41 six-foot sections (242 / 6 = 40.33, rounded up).
