About the IPF GL Points
This calculator computes IPF GL (GoodLift) Points, the official bodyweight-adjusted scoring formula used by the International Powerlifting Federation to compare totals across weight classes. Enter sex, bodyweight in kilograms, and total weight lifted in kilograms to get a single comparable score.
How It Works
The calculator applies an exponential bodyweight-adjustment curve with coefficients that differ by sex, then scales the lifter's total against that curve. The result is a normalized points value that lets a lighter lifter's total be compared directly against a heavier lifter's total on the same scale.
Formula & Methodology
For a male lifter weighing 83 kg with a total of 500 kg, first compute e raised to the power of negative 0.00921 times 83, then multiply that by 1025.18162 and subtract the result from 1199.72839 to get the denominator. Multiply the 500 kg total by 100 and divide by that denominator to get the final points value. The exponential term means the denominator changes only gradually as bodyweight increases, which is what allows lifters at very different bodyweights to be scored on a shared scale rather than a simple linear ratio.
Examples
Men's 83 kg example
A male lifter weighing 83 kg with a 500 kg total works through the male coefficients (A = 1199.72839, B = 1025.18162, C = 0.00921) to produce an IPF GL Points score in the mid-500s.
Comparing a lighter lifter
A female lifter weighing 60 kg with a 300 kg total uses the female coefficients (A = 610.32796, B = 1045.59282, C = 0.03048) in the same formula, giving a points value that can be ranked directly against the male lifter's score above despite the very different bodyweight and total.

Edge Cases to Watch For
- The calculator requires bodyweight and total to both be greater than zero, returning an error otherwise since a zero or negative value would produce a nonsensical or undefined points figure.
- The A, B, and C coefficients are sex-specific, so selecting the wrong sex will produce a plausible-looking but incorrect points total.
- Points are displayed to two decimal places, which matters when comparing lifters whose totals differ by only a few kilograms.
