About the Plywood Sheathing
Roof and wall sheathing is ordered by the 4x8 sheet, and dividing total area by the standard 32 sq ft per sheet gives a base count that still needs a waste allowance layered on top for cuts around edges and openings.
How It Works
The calculator divides the area to cover by 32 sq ft, the coverage of a standard 4x8 sheet, then adds your waste percentage for trim losses.
Examples
A typical roof deck
1,200 sq ft of roof area with 10% waste needs about 42 sheets of 4x8 plywood or OSB.
A smaller wall section
400 sq ft of wall sheathing at the same 10% waste needs about 14 sheets.
