About the Relative Strength Ratio
The Relative Strength Ratio Calculator converts a squat, bench press, or deadlift number into a bodyweight multiple, answering how much you lift relative to how much you weigh rather than in isolation. Because a 300 lb squat carries different meaning for a 150 lb lifter than for a 250 lb lifter, dividing lift weight by bodyweight puts athletes of different sizes on the same scale. It's built for lifters who want a quick strength-level snapshot without running a full formula like Wilks or DOTS.
How It Works
Select which lift you're checking - squat, bench press, or deadlift - then enter the weight lifted and your current bodyweight in matching units. The calculator divides lift weight by bodyweight to get a ratio, then compares that ratio against four preset bodyweight-multiple thresholds specific to the chosen lift. The result reports both the raw ratio (for example, 1.75x bodyweight) and a label ranging from Beginner up through Elite.
Examples
Squat at the Advanced Line
A lifter squatting 315 lb at a 180 lb bodyweight has a ratio of 315/180 = 1.75x. Since 1.75 meets the squat's Advanced threshold (1.75x) but falls short of Elite (2.25x), the calculator returns Advanced.
Bench Press in the Novice Range
A 200 lb lifter benching 185 lb gets a ratio of 185/200 = 0.925x. That clears the bench Novice threshold (0.5x) but stays under Intermediate (1.0x), so the result is Novice.

Edge Cases to Watch For
- Bodyweight must be greater than zero; entering zero or a negative bodyweight returns an error instead of a ratio.
- The four thresholds are fixed per lift and don't adjust for sex, age, or limb length, so the calculator explicitly labels them general reference benchmarks rather than official standards.
- Thresholds work on a greater-than-or-equal basis, so a ratio landing exactly on a cutoff (say, exactly 1.75x for squat) is classified into the higher tier, not the lower one.
