About the Rubric Score to Grade

This calculator adds up points earned across multiple rubric criteria, each with its own maximum, and converts the total into an overall percentage and letter grade. It's aimed at grading or reviewing work scored against a multi-criterion rubric where categories don't necessarily share the same point value.

How It Works

Enter the points earned for each criterion and the maximum possible points for each criterion as two matching comma-separated lists. The calculator sums both lists, divides total points earned by total points possible, and converts that percentage into a letter grade using a standard cutoff scale.

Formula & Methodology

Because each criterion can carry a different maximum, a criterion worth 10 points naturally contributes more to the total than one worth 5 points, without needing a separate weighting input. All earned points are pooled over all possible points, so heavier criteria carry proportionally more influence on the final percentage.
