The Study Time Estimator calculates how many hours per week you should expect to spend studying outside class, based on your credit hours this semester and a general difficulty setting for your course mix. It's meant for students building a weekly schedule who want both a weekly total and a daily average they can block out on a calendar.

How It Works

Enter your total credit hours for the semester and select a difficulty level: easier than average, average, or challenging, each mapped to a fixed study-to-class ratio of 1.5, 2, or 3 hours of study per credit hour. The calculator multiplies your credits by that ratio to get a weekly study hour total, then divides by 7 to show an average number of study hours per day.

Weekly Study Hours = Credit Hours x Ratio, where Ratio = 1.5 (easier), 2 (average), or 3 (challenging). Daily Average = Weekly Study Hours / 7.

Formula & Methodology

For a typical 15-credit semester at the average ratio of 2, weekly study time comes to 15 x 2 = 30 hours, which spread evenly across all seven days averages 30 / 7 = 4.3 hours per day. Selecting a different difficulty tier simply swaps in a different multiplier before the same two-step calculation.
