The Summer Session Acceleration Calculator estimates how many semesters a student can cut from their degree timeline by taking summer courses in addition to a normal course load. It compares a standard two-semester-per-year pace against a pace that adds summer credits, translating the difference into semesters saved.

How It Works

Enter your remaining credits needed to graduate, the credits you typically take per regular semester, and how many credits you plan to complete each summer. The calculator first works out how long graduation would take without summer courses, then recalculates the timeline assuming your regular semester pace plus summer credits every year, and reports the difference in semesters saved.

With 60 credits remaining and 15 credits per regular semester, the no-summer path needs ceil(60/15) = 4 semesters, or 2 years. Adding 6 summer credits a year raises total annual output to (15 x 2) + 6 = 36 credits, so the accelerated path takes 60 / 36 = 1.67 years. The difference, (2 - 1.67) x 2, comes to about 0.7 semesters saved.
